3 key things we want our students to learn

1.

How to be proactive and efficient

Working in a lab is not like a class. It’s more like a paid job. You will be given advice and information, and also instructed to do things, but essentially the responsibility for producing reliable, quality work lies with yourself. This kind of initiative is essential for any job, scientific or not, and is something we strive for with our students.

2.

Practical research skills

At our lab, you will not only learn how to do research, but also all of the other skills that come with scientific research. That includes networking, presenting, etc. For example, we have lab meetings once a week where you will practice how to present your thoughts and work results to an audience, both in written and oral form.

3.

Being a good team player and communicator

Finally, we want our students to learn how to maintain good communication. That means we expect you to respond to any emails within a week, and encourage you to come up with ideas and ask questions. We also want your project to be a 2-way discussion, and good communication is key to a successful project.
